Tata Sky has launched the Tata Sky High Definition (HD) service in India at Rs. 2,599. So far, Sun TV and Reliance BIG TV were the two services available in HD resolution for the Indian audience.

Tata Sky's new high definition will support the most advanced 1080i picture quality, 16:9 aspect ratio and 5.1 surround sound. Tata Sky HD bundle will include HD content showing channels - National Geographic HD and Discovery HD. Besides that, Tata Sky will be launching Star Plus HD, Star Movies HD along with popular sports channels in HD resolution that would be added to that pack.

One would need an HDMI cable to connect the new Tata Sky HD STB to an HD TV. Tata Sky HD set top boxes aka digicomps would be available in Mumbai, Delhi and Chennai initially.

Currently, there's a promotional offer announced by Tata Sky under which any new subscriber who activates Tata Sky HD with digicomp will get HD Gold Pack free for two months. All existing Tata Sky subscribers will get one year access of HD Gold Pack free if they activate Tata Sky HD with Digicomp.
